Samuel M. Plato, Architect Samuel Plato was a prominent African American architect. He was born in 1882 in Montgomery County, AL. Attended schools in Waugh, AL, Winston-Salem, NC, & 1902 State Univ. Normal School, now Simmons College. Early career in Marion, IN., 1902-19. Married twice: Nettie & Elnora. They worked with his business. Died 5-13-57; buried in Louisville Cemetery.
Buildings by Samuel M. Plato In Louisville, he built: Broadway Temple AME; St. Augustine Cath. Church; James Lee Presby. Church; Simmons College buildings; Virginia Ave. School; Green Street Baptist Church; own home at 2509 Muhammad Ali Blvd. Also built 2nd Baptist Church, Bloomington; Swallow Robin Hall at Taylor Univ. & at least 38 U.S. Post Offices. Central Ky Chapter/AIA
