YOUTH & FAMILY PROGRAMS

Day Camps

Make, play, and investigate history at our signature week-long program for ages 6-12. Participants explore KHS exhibits, meet special guest speakers, collaborate with new friends, create art inspired by history, and engage in hands-on games and activities. With small class sizes, quality supplies, and top-notch teachers, campers will have a great time learning about Kentucky's history.

Girl Scout Workshops

Explore history hands-on and express creativity while earning a badge. KHS partners with Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road to offer Girl Scouts regularly scheduled badge workshops. These programs cover many themes, including historic crafts, visual arts, performing arts, family history, games, communication, music, STEAM, and more!

Blast from the Past! Girl Scout Overnight

Blast from the Past! Girl Scout Overnight

Friday, October 11th at 6:30 pm – Saturday, October 12th at 10:00 am

Cost: $40 per scout.

Experience an unforgettable overnight adventure at the Kentucky Historical Society and discover the rich history of Kentucky. Get a glimpse into the lives of Kentucky girls from the past and enjoy their historic hobbies while making memories. Create your own corn husk doll, model historical costumes, go on a fun ‘low light’ scavenger hunt in our exhibit, A Kentucky Journey, and make your own ‘hair’ jewelry, just in time for the spooky season.

Participants will sleep inside our “Kentucky Journey” museum. Cozy up to a Model T, sleep tight in a coal mine, rest your head on a flat boat, or have sweet dreams in other historic locations inside the exhibit. Breakfast will be provided the following morning, and scouts are welcome to spend the day exploring our three locations in Historic Downtown Frankfort. Participants will gain an exclusive patch and use your activities to work towards multiple badges regardless of your troop’s age level!

Activities can be counted towards various badges, with each scout receiving a special Blast from the Past patch! The cost of the program includes a patch, snacks, breakfast on the Saturday after the overnight, and free admission to all the Kentucky Historical Society’s sites on the Saturday following the overnight to make the most out of your visit! $15 per adult for breakfast and museum admission. Dinner is on your own. At least one adult must accompany a troop.

Register at history.ky.gov or by emailing KHSeducation@ky.gov.

Scouts in Action

Scouts in Action

Saturday, December 7, 10:00 am-5:00 pm

Cost: General Admission

This day-long event offers badges for Cadettes, Juniors, and Seniors, but all Scouts are welcome to come and work towards their Citizen Legacy goals. These workshops focus on becoming an engaged citizen through learning about how government works and your civic responsibilities. Join us at the Kentucky Historical Society to earn your next badge or hop around workshops to complete goals towards a badge of your choice.

Daisies will discover what makes Kentucky unique. Brownies will learn about our democracy, while Juniors and Seniors will gain insight into the inner workings of our government. Cadettes will explore civil debate and the importance of compromise, while Ambassador Scouts will delve into public policy on multiple levels.

Scouts in Action fulfills all of the following badge requirements: Inside Government (Junior-level), Democracy for Brownies, Finding Common Ground (Cadets), and Behind the Ballot (Seniors). However, we encourage Scouts of all ages to explore how state and national government operates—and what they can do to help their government, too!
