Day Camps
Make, play, and investigate history at our signature week-long program for ages 6-12. Participants explore KHS exhibits, meet special guest speakers, collaborate with new friends, create art inspired by history, and engage in hands-on games and activities. With small class sizes, quality supplies, and top-notch teachers, campers will have a great time learning about Kentucky's history.

Live Kentucky’s story through the eyes of young men and women of the past. Experience a different time period each day and learn about young Kentuckians who made history. Explore the frontier, Civil War, turn-of-the-century coal country, Great Depression, and WWII through the eyes of Kentucky kids of the past. Learn skills from each time period, from sewing to surveying, and get inspired to make your own history!

Set sail with the Kentucky Historical Society as we learn about Kentucky’s various rivers, streams, and creek beds and what makes Kentucky’s water so special! Explore the Commonwealth’s waterways and see how water has shaped Kentucky’s people, land, and culture. From native people, the introduction of locks and dams, and even the effects of floods, we will learn about our relationship to water through hands-on activities and firsthand accounts of water professionals. Join us on our voyage into the depths of water’s murky history!

Attention artists! Throughout history, people have expressed themselves and recorded their stories through artistic forms. Join us as we explore Kentucky’s art history and artifacts from the far past to modern times. From architectural design to watercolor painting, campers will experience the medium through the eyes of the artist.

Back by popular demand, Fun at the Fair is ready to bring your camper their favorite fair foods, games, and history. Campers will see how fairs and expositions have brought the world to Kentucky by exploring the Great Southern Exposition from 1883, creating their own midway, and having their creations compete for blue ribbon prizes!
Parents are encouraged to join us for the last day of camp to enjoy the campers' creations.

Girl Scout Workshops
Explore history hands-on and express creativity while earning a badge. KHS partners with Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road to offer an Overnight at the Museum and a Civics Day at the Old State Capitol.
