Day Camps

Make, play, and investigate history at our signature week-long program for ages 6-12. Participants explore KHS exhibits, meet special guest speakers, collaborate with new friends, create art inspired by history, and engage in hands-on games and activities. With small class sizes, quality supplies, and top-notch teachers, campers will have a great time learning about Kentucky's history.

Summer Camp 2023: Week One - Pros of the Past

2023 Summer Camp Week One

Date and time: June 12 – 16, 9 am – 4 pm., 8 – 9 am drop off, 4 – 4:30 pm pick up

Age Range: 6 – 12 (rising 1st to 6th grade)

What do you want to be when you grow up…if you lived in the nineteenth century? Find your place in history as we explore popular professions of the past. Create fabric samples as a weaver, upgrade the latest hairstyle as a wig maker, and shape a vessel as a potter. Then you’ll have to get to work tending crops and livestock as a farmer, but don’t forget to turn up the heat as a blacksmith!

Summer Camp 2023: Week Two - Kentucky Cookin'

2023 Summer Camp Week Two

Date and time: June 19 – 23, 9 am – 4 pm., 8 – 9 am drop off, 4 – 4:30 pm pick up

Age Range: 6 – 12 (rising 1st to 6th grade)

Grab a plate and take your tastebuds time traveling as we explore what past Kentuckians considered “finger-lickin’ good”! Make trail mix so we can traverse the woods like Daniel Boone, snack on hard tack like Civil War soldiers, and plant a Victory Garden. For your sweeter side, mix up a kid-friendly Ale-81 mint julep and finish the week off with everyone’s favorite meal…dessert. Book your reservation for a timeline of tasty treats today!

Summer Camp 2023: Week Three - History's Mysteries

2023 Summer Camp Week Three

Date and time: June 26 – 30, 9 am – 4 pm., 8 – 9 am drop off, 4 – 4:30 pm pick up

Age Range: 6 – 12 (rising 1st to 6th grade)

Grab your magnifying glass as we attempt to discover the truth that has eluded historians for centuries. Use your critical thinking to decipher what Daniel Boone really looked like and try to solve who assassinated Governor Goebel. Explore artifacts in our collection that have a curious past. Dig to see what mysterious objects might lie beneath your feet in the museum’s mock archeological site. There’s no telling what surprises lie in store, so sign up and find out!

2023 Summer Camp Week Four

Date and time: July 10 – 14, 9 am – 4 pm., 8 – 9 am drop off, 4 – 4:30 pm pick up

Age Range: 6 – 12 (rising 1st to 6th grade)

Calling all drama kings and queens, we are ready for you to make a scene in our exhibit! With the museum as the backdrop, create a historic character based on stories of Kentucky’s past. Write a one-person show, create costumes, props, and learn memorization techniques from historic reenactors. Be sure to sign up before the curtain call!

Live from Frankfort…it’s the Kentucky Chronicles! The one show that recreates Kentucky’s historical events as a news broadcast. Learn the art of interviewing a big story, handle equipment our ancestors wish they had, then act out historical events that happened right here in the Commonwealth. What historic “breaking news” will you chronicle?

2023 Summer Camp Week Six

Age Range: 6 – 12 (rising 1st to 6th grade)

Fried, tried, and true, the Kentucky State Fair Camp is here for YOU! Back by popular demand, this camp will have you moving and grooving down the midway, creating game booths, inventions, and fair food delights. Experience the evolution of expositions to annual state-wide fairs that will leave you hungry for more. Space is limited, so be sure to get your tickets quickly!

Girl Scout Workshops

Explore history hands-on and express creativity while earning a badge. KHS partners with Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana and Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road to offer Girl Scouts regularly scheduled badge workshops. These programs cover many themes, including historic crafts, visual arts, performing arts, family history, games, communication, music, STEAM, and more!
