Maulding's Fort

Site of stockade, built in 1780 on the Red River as protection against Indians. Named for the James Maulding family, immigrants from Virginia and leaders in Russellville's early development. Morton Maulding was the first representative of Logan County to Kentucky legislature, 1794. In 1782, Indians compelled a temporary abandonment of fort.
