Oct. 8, 1862, during Battle of Perryville, Gen. James Withers' troops of Gen. Kirby Smith's CSA army attacked USA force of Gen. J. W. Sill near Fox Creek while Smith skirmished with Sill's rear guard. Many Union prisoners and 20 wagons captured. A Confederate shot seven Federals but later was killed. He with four others are buried in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
