The Kentucky History Center is Open!

We are excited to announce our return to our regular Tuesday-Saturday schedule for our museums and Wednesday-Saturday schedule for the research library.  For hours and admission prices, see here. We also encourage you to purchase tickets online in order to ensure a contact-free transaction at our welcome desk. What can you expect from your visit?

Our plan for reopening has not only been reviewed by the Franklin County Office of Emergency Management, but it also meets Team Kentucky’s Healthy-at Work guidelines and follows the American Alliance of Museums recommendations for reopening museums. Visitors can expect clear and comfortable guidance throughout their experience, with plenty of assistance from our knowledgeable and friendly staff. Expectations include detailed instruction regarding masks, social distancing, sanitation and hygiene, increased cleaning & disinfecting schedules, and limited crowd capacity. While the days of immersive interactives are on hold, we maintain our commitment to engaging learning experiences.

As of July 10, masks are required indoors. They are also required in outdoor areas where at least six (6) feet of distancing cannot be obtained.

For Governor Beshear's recent Executive Order concerning masks in public, click here. For the latest information on Kentucky's state guidelines click here. What changes can you expect when using the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library? The General Stacks, Reference, Land Records, and Maps areas are CLOSED to browsing and visitor retrieval. Staff will pull your requested items.

What about group tours and rentals? Sorry, but we are not currently scheduling either group tours or rental facilities. Please check our website and social media for updates.

Can’t visit? Don’t worry! Visit our website’s Virtual Visitor page for archived virtual tours, videos, educational resources, and other online offerings, including day trips and marker tours.
