KHS's America250KY Administrator Honored by DAR for Revolutionary War Education Efforts

The Kentucky Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (KSDAR) awarded Ashley Spenneberg-Perkins, KHS’s America250KY Administrator, with the DAR America 250! Commendation medal and certificate, which recognizes those who “have demonstrated extraordinary efforts to honor the men and women who achieved American Independence and educate others about their service and sacrifice." The award was presented to Ashley for “Raising Awareness of Revolutionary Patriots and America's 250th Anniversary."

Ashley and KHS are working closely with the KSDAR on the America250, including a project to plant “Liberty Trees” in every Kentucky county by July 4, 2026. The Kentucky Dept. of Forestry has donated tulip poplars that county judge executives are planting in their communities. KSDAR chapters across the state are coordinating dedication ceremonies for the trees. Currently, 92 counties have signed up to participate in the Liberty Tree project, which includes both historical lessons about the American Revolution and promotes the conservation of Kentucky’s native trees. Spenneberg-Perkins received her B.A. in History, B.A. in Anthropology, and M.A. in Public History from Northern Kentucky University. She has worked at the Kentucky Historical Society since 2023. As the America250KY administrator, she works to ensure that the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is a statewide commemoration.
