KHS Releases New Podcast Series
The KHS Research Fellowship program has released the first episode of Kentucky Chronicles, hosted by Dr. Daniel J. Burge. This new podcast is dedicated to sharing the scholarship of KHS researchers on a wide array of topics. The podcast provides a forum for KHS research fellows to share their findings and to promote their research and any publications that might follow, including articles in KHS publications. For several years, the KHS has offered educational grants creating opportunities for researchers worldwide to visit and explore our rich archival holdings. Read more about the podcast and episodes here.
Dr. Burge coordinates our Research Fellows program and hosts the podcast. He is also the associate editor of The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society.
The first episode explores the work of Dr. Jonathan Hancock on the New Madrid earthquakes. From December 1811 until March 1812, three major earthquakes along the far western border of Kentucky shook the North American interior. Dr. Hancock discusses the lasting effects of the earthquakes on Kentucky.
Future topics include an evolution debate in Kentucky before the Scopes trial, political scandals, a historic African American Chautauqua series that was ahead of its time, health and aging in Kentucky, a close look at the stereotypes and eugenics, and even research on the history of the Kentucky Historical Society.
You can listen to the podcast on Spotify, YouTube, and SoundCloud. We hope to add iTunes and Google Play as future streaming services.
