Eight Local History Organizations from Six Kentucky Counties Receive Funding

FRANKFORT, Ky. (April 9, 2024) – The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) announced recipients of the 2023 Kentucky Local History Trust Fund grants, a funding pool that supports the efforts of local history organizations to preserve and share Kentucky stories. Organizations in six Kentucky counties received grants totaling $11,000. Individual amounts range from $823.15 to $2,500 for exhibition expansion, collections management, archiving, technology updates, and programming projects.

Below are the organizations and projects receiving grants:

Lexington History Museum (Lexington, Fayette County) – $1952.41 - Everyone Learns: Children’s Activities at the Lexington History Museum

Kentucky Department of Parks (Frankfort, Franklin County) – $823.15 - Kentucky Native American Interpretation Workshop

The Berry Center (New Castle, Henry County) – $823.15 - Write Your Own Rural Story

Frazier History Museum (Louisville, Jefferson County) – $823.15 - Collections Management: Archiving New Acquisitions from the Kentucky Science Center

Riverside, The Farnsley-Moremen Landing (Louisville, Jefferson County) – $2,500 - Interpreting the History and Legacy of Slavery Workshop

Loretto Heritage Center (Loretto, Marion County) – $2,431.84 - Re-framing Artifacts for Preservation

Kentucky Museum c/o College Heights Foundation (Bowling Green, Warren County) – $823.15 - Sonic Landscape: Bowling Green in Song

National Corvette Museum (Bowling Green, Warren County) – $823.15 - Supporting Kentucky’s Manufacturing History

The Kentucky Local History Trust Fund is a tax option where Kentuckians donate a portion of their state income tax refund via Line 38f. As the fund administrator, KHS has, to date, awarded 67 local history organizations with nearly $160,000 distributed across the Commonwealth. For more information, visit history.ky.gov/lhtf.
