Changes to KHS from Coronavirus/COVID-19

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is committed to the safety and well-being of our members, visitors, volunteers, and staff. Therefore, due to concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and the declaration of a State of Emergency across the Commonwealth of Kentucky, visitors to KHS can expect some changes. First, we are open to the public! Anyone who wants to tour our museum spaces, including the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, the Old State Capitol, and the Kentucky Military History Museum are welcome to visit.

Please note, however, that our staff is practicing “social distancing,” meaning that, while we will be friendly, we will stand at least six feet away from you, won’t shake hands, and will practice other techniques to limit person-to-person contact. While our exhibits are open, our library is closed to onsite visitors. However, our library staff will provide additional resources to help you with online research and reference requests from Tuesday through Saturday.

Need help? Call our reference desk at (502) 782-8080, or email khsrefdesk@ky.gov. Our library staff is here to help you! In order to follow health guidelines that discourage large groups from gathering, all of our group visits, public tours, workshops, rentals, and public events from now until April 18 have been suspended. If you have any questions about cancellations, please call (502) 564-1792.

If you visit, please note that we are also diligently cleaning our public spaces! We are making sure that public areas are clean and properly disinfected and that staff and visitors have access to hand sanitizer. If you have questions regarding COVID-19, please visit the Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ website. Thank you!
