Bringing the Past to Life in Communities Statewide
Hello, community leaders! Are you looking for ways to make history engaging for the local community?
Explore the rich history of Kentucky with the guidance of a museum educator who will collaborate with your organization. This experienced professional will visit your location and deliver an engaging presentation that brings the past to life.
Program Options:
Civics in Action
Take a step into the past and see how Kentucky has changed through the lens of the Old State Capitol. Engage in a hands-on activity and experience writing with a quill and ink. Take on the role of a historian and analyze artifacts from our collections. Families will collaboratively brainstorm and draft a bill proposal or a citizenship letter, all while considering ways to enhance their community.
Please note:
- This activity is recommended for ages 6-17 or families.
- To ensure each child is engaged and learning, the recommended cap for the quill and ink activity is 30 children.
- The quill and ink activity can be messy, so it is best to do it in a room with a sink.
Kentucky Explorers
Travel back in time before Kentucky’s statehood! Take the Wilderness Road through the Cumberland Gap with Daniel Boone, exchange goods with American Indians like Chief Blackfish of the Shawnee Nation, and discover the various people who shaped early Kentucky.
Children will document their adventures in their very own time traveler’s journal, where they can create diary entries, map out a fort, and collect tools to thrive on the Kentucky frontier!
Please Note:
- Recommended for children ages 6 – 14 or families.
- To ensure each child is engaged and learning, the recommended cap for this activity is approximately 30 children.
Boone: The Man, the Myth, the Legend
Who was Daniel Boone, really? Does the legendary figure wearing a coonskin cap overshadow the real man, or even accurately represent him? Join us on a journey back in time to uncover the true story behind one of America’s first folk heroes.
Please Note:
