Pioneer Burying Ground

Lexington's first burial ground was on this site, part of "first hill" on route from fort toward Georgetown. In 1781, this square was set aside by town trustees for house of worship and graveyard. The cemetery was used until end of cholera epidemic in 1833. Since 1788, there have been four Baptist churches here. Presented by Lexington-Fayette Co. Historic Commission.
