Near head of Madrid Bend, Jct. KY 313 & Hart's Service Rd.

Kentucky claimed land to the westernmost middle of Mississippi River-to this bend. Kentucky and Tennessee disagreed over boundary line until the Cox-Peebles survey, 1858-59, brought compromise. Nearby village of Compromise prospered during steamboat era but was eroded by the river ca. 1880. Neck joining bend to Tenn., once three miles wide, is now less than one mile across.
