On Nov. 28, 1863, after escaping from Ohio Penitentiary & taking a train to Cincinnati, CSA Gen. John Hunt Morgan & Capt. Thomas Hines crossed the Ohio River to Ludlow. Sympathetic Boone County residents, as well as Big Bone Baptist Church, gave them food, shelter & supplies. They rode into Gallatin Co. the following night. See map over

This map shows the route taken by Gen. Morgan and Capt. Hines from North to South through Boone County on Nov. 28 & 29, 1863. Also shown are the contacts and stops they made along the way.
