Mansion built by William Owsley at close of term as Governor of Kentucky, 1844-48. Tract on which house stands part of land claimed by James Harrod prior to 1785. Owsley (1782-1862) served as Judge on the Court of Appeals, State Senator, and Secretary of State before elected Governor. Owsley County named for him. Marker presented by Charles E. Beck.
