Artist, naturalist, ornithologist. John James Audubon often came through this county on sketching trips in 1820. His frequent and wide excursions took him into all parts of the neighboring territory where he combined a love of art and science to produce his now-famous prints. Many done in this area were in Birds of America, to which he owes his fame.
