1ST KY CAVALRY BEGINNING Union Col. Frank Wolford started recruiting for the 1st Ky Cavalry here in July 1861. Unit fought in over 300 engagements, including Perryville & Mill Springs. Local recruits included: Col. Silas Adams, eventual commander of the unit, Eastham Tarrant, author of Wild Riders of 1st Ky Cavalry, Jarrard Jenkins, killed at Perryville and James Humphrey, killed at Atlanta.
