Project Ricochet’s Urban Art Collective and Roots 101 African American Museum Announce Joint Exhibition, The Antiquities: From Africa to America at the Pam Miller Arts Center Community Gallery, January 9 – March 2, 2026 | Lexington, Kentucky

Lexington, KY – Project Ricochet’s Urban Art Collective and Roots 101 African American Museum are proud to announce a landmark collaborative exhibition opening at the Pam Miller Arts Center Community Gallery from January 9 through March 2. This cross-city partnership bridges Lexington and Louisville in a transformative cultural exchange, bringing forward an expansive narrative of Black artistry, heritage, healing, and global connection as represented in The Antiquities: From Africa to America exhibition. As the United States prepares to celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, this exhibit also serves as a celebration of long-lasting legacy of the America250 commemoration to the people of the commonwealth.

The exhibition will showcase a curated body of work featuring textures, stories, and visual traditions grounded in the African Diaspora. Visitors will encounter an artistic journey that honors ancestors, interrogates contemporary identity, and celebrates the evolving expression of Black culture. The inclusion of textiles from Africa will deepen aesthetic and historical relevance, offering a tactile connection to lineage and legacy.

Through bold color, layered symbolism, and intergenerational storytelling, this collaboration positions art as a tool of belonging, education, and community empowerment, advancing both organizations’ missions to preserve culture while catalyzing progress.

Statement from Mr. Lamont Collins, Founder of Roots 101 African American Museum:

"The mission of Roots 101 has always been to carry history forward, to make it accessible, alive, and undeniable. The partnership with Project Ricochet’s Urban Art Collective embodies that purpose fully. By bringing Louisville and Lexington together in one artistic space, we are building bridges where stories can travel freely; past borders, past time, and through people. This exhibition is a display of art; it is an affirmation of who we are and where we come from, told in color, cloth, and voice."

Statement from Dr. Abeni El-Amin, President of Project Ricochet & Artistic Director of the Urban Art Collective:

"The work of the Urban Art Collective is grounded in community, identity, wellness, and cultural elevation. Partnering with Roots 101 allows us to expand this vision across cities, connecting two communities through shared history, artistic expression, and the quiet power of visual language. What we are creating is unity. It is a reminder that art is both medicine and memory. We are honored to bring ancestral textiles, ancestral works, and collective imagination into one gallery where all are welcomed to witness, reflect, and feel."
