Join the Kentucky Military History Museum as we celebrate Veterans Day! During this virtual, hands-on learning experience, we will learn about the history of Veterans Day and how to care for the American flag. While students design their own flags, a veteran will talk about what Veterans Day means to them and help us fold our “flags” together. We will also participate in the traditional minute of silence at the stroke of 11:00 EST, as we remember the military men and women who serve our country. Recommended for K-5th grade students.

Registration is required and closes Friday, Nov. 7, at 12:00 p.m. EST. Link will be sent on Monday, November 10th.

Guest Speaker

Andy Dickson

Andy Dickson is a 23-year veteran of both the Active-Duty Army and Kentucky National Guard. He is also a father to two boys, Oliver and Simon, and a historian who has worked with the Kentucky National Guard and the Kentucky Historical Society.

Andy first entered active duty in July 2002, between the time of September 11th and the beginning of the Iraq War. His first job in the Army was as a crewmember on the M1 Abrams main battle tank, serving in all positions, and he left for Iraq in 2006 for combat operations.

He left active duty in 2008 to pursue a degree in history at the University of Kentucky and graduated in 2013.

Also, during that time, Andy transferred to the National Guard and changed jobs to a carpentry and masonry engineer to build infrastructure for troops. Through promotions, he was later an engineer foreman.

Later on in his career, Andy developed a passion for writing and photography, which led him to change jobs to work in Army public affairs. This allowed him to take official photos and act as a military journalist for the Army.

Andy retired in June of this year to focus on his children and pursue opportunities through Army benefits.
