KHS to be Open MLK Day for Special Activities
The Kentucky Historical Society, normally closed on Mondays, will mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day with special hours on Jan. 15 and activities for all ages designed to celebrate King’s legacy, explore African American contributions to Kentucky history, encourage community service and promote peace. KHS also will launch a new photo exhibit chronicling several of the commonwealth’s African American communities.
MLK Day hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; normal KHS admission applies.
Here is the schedule:
10 am.: Craft: Share a Good Deed through a Painted Kentucky (while supplies last)
10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.: Community Engagement Fair
11 a.m.: Hearn Elementary School Choir
Noon: Bridgeport Elementary School Choir
1 p.m.: Franklin County High Soul Steppin’ Flyers
1-3 p.m.: Family Workshop: Standing Up and Speaking Out – Civil Rights Leaders
1:30 p.m.: Old State Capitol tour*
3 p.m.: Old State Capitol tour*
