KHS Names Craig Deputy Director

FRANKFORT, KY (November 19, 2024) - The Kentucky Historical Society is pleased to announce that Leah Craig is filling its position of Deputy Director. Craig will lead daily program activities to fulfill the Kentucky Historical Society’s mission and strategic priorities.

“Leah Craig has the proficiency and leadership skills to direct the diverse array of programs and work of our professional teams at KHS, and we are thrilled she has accepted this role. She has the full support of our Governing Board, and we look forward to working with her,” says KHS Governing Board President, Cynthia Torp.

A native of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, Craig’s career has come full circle since serving as a KHS graduate intern in 2011. Craig has over 10 years of leadership experience in museum and non-profits. She has served as interim director of collections at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY, executive director at Historic Paris-Bourbon County/Hopewell Museum in Paris, KY, and curator of education at the Oklahoma History Center. She is no stranger to Kentucky’s history, having worked at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, KY, Fort Boonesborough State Park in Richmond, KY, and for the Kentucky Museum and Heritage Alliance (KMHA). Most recently, Craig served as a program consultant at KHS, leading collecting initiatives and KHS’s successful re-accreditation with the American Alliance of Museums.

“I am grateful to everyone who has mentored me throughout my career both at the Kentucky Historical Society and beyond,” said Craig, “serving KHS as Deputy Director is an honor, especially with such a wonderful team committed to sharing our Commonwealth’s important history with the public.” 

Craig has a Bachelor of Arts from Western Kentucky University and a Master of Arts in history with a certificate in public history from Auburn University. She has also served as an AmeriCorps Member with the Lee County, Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross and volunteered on boards such as the Bowling Green Landmark Association and Paris-Bourbon County Chamber of Commerce. She currently serves on the Steering Committee for the Kentucky Heritage Emergency Response Network (KHERN).
