KHS and Girl Scouts continue successful partnership

The virtual platform has proven to be very successful for the KHS Girl Scout program, and November’s events highlight the thriving partnerships with our local scout councils.  KHS used the popular Zoom platform to host badge workshops, and our reach extended from coast to coast.  Along with that, we partnered with Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council, the Secretary of State’s Office, and the League of Women Voters to offer the Promise to Vote Service Program. The initiative occurs every presidential election year to raise awareness about the importance of voting and community involvement in elections. 4th-12th grade girl scouts from all around Kentucky participated in KHS’s 3-day virtual celebration for completing the service project. They tested their knowledge of unusual Kentucky laws in a competitive trivia contest, wrote laws using quill pens, and tuned in to a special tour of the Old State Capitol building.  KHS also participated in the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Council’s Festival of the Arts event, a day-long experience for girls scouts that brings together a wide variety of local artists and organizations to celebrate dance, drama, visual arts, and more. KHS hosted a Kentucky music sampler workshop for girls in grades K-5. The girls found music in everyday objects to create their own jug band, constructed their own bluegrass-inspired popsicle stick harmonica, and tuned in to a very special Appalachian dulcimer performance from KHS staff member Deborah Thompson!
