Kentucky Oral History Commission Offers New Grant

The Kentucky Oral History Commission (KOHC) provides grants to individuals and organizations involved in oral history work, and is accepting grant applications to fund

• New oral history projects
• Transcription and indexing of existing oral history interviews
• Preservation of existing oral history interviews
• Presentation of existing oral history collections

The grant for presentation is new this year to help make existing oral history collections more accessible to listeners. Grant applications are due by March 19. In fiscal year 2017, KOHC awarded funds to support projects and preservation efforts ranging in topic from a Rosenwald School in Berea to Appalachian food and dance traditions, Kentucky newspaper editors to contemporary African-American writers in Kentucky. Providing monetary grants is just part of KOHC’s work. The commission also provides training grants and equipment to help organizations and oral historians at all levels of experience with projects on topics significant to Kentucky. KOHC is the only state commission committed to statewide oral history documentation through grant programs and outreach. The Kentucky Historical Society administers and houses KOHC.
