Kentucky Historical Society to Participate in Blue Star Museums

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) this summer will offer free general admission to U.S. active duty military personnel and up to five family members as a participant in Blue Star Museums. The program is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense and more than 2,000 museums across the country.

The free admission applies to the entire KHS history campus, including the Kentucky Military History Museum, the Old State Capitol and the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History. “KHS is happy to recognize our country’s military personnel through our continued participation in this program,” said Scott Alvey, KHS acting executive director. KHS has been a member of the Blue Star Museums program since 2011.

Blue Star Museums runs from May 26 through Labor Day, and is for people currently serving in the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard, as well as active duty and reservists, National Guard personnel (regardless of status), U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps.

Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card for entrance into a participating Blue Star Museum. Regular KHS admission is $8 for adults and $6 for youth ages 6-18 and veterans. Children ages 5 and under, KHS members and Kentucky Junior Historical Society members receive free admission.
