‘Come on in’ to the Old State Capitol

The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) will open the Old State Capitol for walk-in visitors on Saturdays this summer. That means from June 2 through Aug. 25, people can tour the Old State Capitol one of two ways:

  • Self-guided, walk-in tour Saturdays anytime from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The building closes at 4:30.) These will start at the Old State Capitol, 300 W. Broadway.
  • Guided tour Tuesdays through Saturdays at 10:30 a.m., noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. On Saturdays, these will start outside of the Old State Capitol. On other days, they start at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, 100 W. Broadway.

“The Old State Capitol is the most distinctive public building in historic downtown Frankfort. We want to offer people a more convenient way to experience its grandeur and history,” said Sara Elliott, KHS director of historical resources.

Regular KHS admission applies for both tour types and gains the visitor access to all KHS sites and exhibits that day.
