Centre Point Podcast features KOHC-supported Oral History Project

Centre Point Podcast

Once an oral history has been collected, how do historians, teachers and the general public use them? In all sorts of ways—from classroom material to data collection and even as material for podcasts! Centre College’s Centre Point Podcast features interviews of World War II veterans that Centre students conducted last academic year. So far, it has used two of them. You can subscribe to the podcast through the app store on your phone or listen online via soundwave.

The Centre Goes to War Oral History project, under the direction of Centre assistant professor Sara Egge, collected oral histories from 63 veterans. Dr. Egge and her students learned about oral history best practices, how to conduct interviews and how to transcribe oral histories.

They also learned that engagement with oral history does not stop when an interview is complete and fully transcribed. Providing access to oral histories is key. Using new outreach techniques, like the Centre Point podcast, is a fantastic avenue for increasing access to and knowledge of the project.

All 63 interviews are in the Kentucky Oral History Commission collection at the Kentucky Historical Society and will be available to researchers after they have been processed.

KOHC is proud to support oral history efforts in Kentucky.
