Application Window Open for Local History Grants

History-minded organizations in Kentucky, including those with 501c3 status, local government agencies and public libraries, can apply for grant funding from the Local History Trust Fund beginning Sept. 7 through Oct. 12, 2018. Individuals and for-profit entities are not eligible. The Local History Trust Fund helps recipients build organizational capacity. Grants are available for planning ($290-$1,000) or implementation ($290-$2,500) of projects that begin in 2019.

Areas include collections management, educational programming, exhibits and organization development. Money for the Local History Trust Fund comes from people who make donations when they file Kentucky state tax returns. The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) administers the granting process. Since KHS began to award grants in 2016, 30 organizations from all corners of Kentucky have received funding. KHS will select the next group of recipients by December, and will award their grants at a special ceremony in January 2019 at the State Capitol.
