Gov. Ruby Laffoon

Born January 15, 1869, Madisonville. Began law practice, 1892. Served as chairman of the first Insurance Rating Board, 1912. Circuit Court Judge, 1921-31. While Governor, 1931-35, he reorganized charitable and penal boards; recodified the educational laws; was responsible for building of more highways and bridges than in the previous 15 years. He died March 1, 1941.

On May 17, 2013, this marker was moved from its original location on the courthouse lawn to its new location at 107 Union Street in Madisonville, which is the address of the Hopkins County Historical Society.
