Kentucky Hall of Governors

IT STARTED WITH A FEUD…

Caught between the wrath of angry women of the Kentucky Women’s Temperance Union and angry businessmen in the bourbon industry, Gov. Augustus Owsley Stanley did the only thing a responsible governor could do – resigned to become a U.S. senator.

That is just one story you’ll find in the Kentucky Hall of Governors, a portrait gallery – and more – that allows you to get behind the rumors and myths to find the facts about Kentucky’s governors and the highest elected office in the Commonwealth. You’ll learn how they handled (or did not) the issues of their day, and see Kentucky’s history within the context of U.S. history.

The official portraits of every governor hang in this interactive gallery (be sure to note the change in portraiture style over time), and you even have the opportunity to put yourself in the governor’s shoes and leave your thoughts on what you’d do if you held the office. Visit and you’ll never again think the same way about the commonwealth’s highest office.
Included in main admission.
