Battle of Blue Licks Memorial

The Governor Isaac Shelby Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will host a public commemoration marking the 244th anniversary of the Battle of Blue Licks, one of the final engagements of the American Revolution. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 15th, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Blue Licks State Resort Park. 

This year’s observance proudly incorporates SAR250, Kentucky250 and America250 branding as part of the nationwide effort to honor the 250th anniversary of the United States and the patriots who secured its independence. 

The event is presented in partnership with the Friends of Blue Licks, the Kentucky Society for the Sons of the American Revolution, and Blue Licks State Resort Park. Attendees will experience historical presentations, patriotic tributes, color guard participation, and reflections on the frontier militia who fought at Blue Licks on August 19, 1782. 

Community members, descendants, historians, reenactors, and visitors are invited to attend this annual tradition of remembrance and help preserve the legacy of Kentucky’s Revolutionary War heritage. 

In addition, the weekend starts off with a presentation of “The Music of the American Revolution” presented by the Kentucky SAR Fife and Drums Corps on Friday, August 14th, at 3:00 PM at Hunter Shelter at the Blue Licks State Resort Park. There will be many presentations over the weekend including one on “Frontier Foods” Sunday morning at 10:00 am, again at the Hunter Shelter.
