Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Naturalization Ceremony

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park will host a special naturalization ceremony on July 4 at 11 a.m. EST as part of the park’s commemoration of Freedom250, the nationwide celebration marking the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

“Hosting a naturalization ceremony on Independence Day at Abraham Lincoln’s birthplace is a meaningful way to celebrate the ideals of freedom, democracy and citizenship that unite our nation,” said Superintendent Joshua Manley. “As part of the Freedom250 commemoration, we are proud to welcome America’s newest citizens and invite the public to share in this special occasion.”

The ceremony will take place near the base of the stairs leading to the historic Memorial Building. Approximately 30 individuals from around the world will take the Oath of Allegiance and become citizens of the United States during the ceremony. Family members, friends and supporters will join them as they celebrate this important milestone. This year's new citizens share a unique connection to the U.S. military. either personally or through a close family member. This further underscores the values of service, sacrifice and commitment to country celebrated on Independence Day.

The National Park Service is honored to welcome these new citizens at the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, whose leadership helped preserve the Union and advance the cause of freedom. An Abraham Lincoln presenter will greet and congratulate the new citizens following the ceremony. Throughout the day, kids can participate in free hands-on craft activities that will celebrate our nation turning 250 years old.

The naturalization ceremony is free and open to the public. Visitors should plan to arrive early.
