THE RULES OF THE DUEL
Before the Civil War, some upper class, white Kentuckians solved their differences by fighting duels. Kentucky politicians once accepted direct, one-on-one confrontation with weapons as a viable way to resolve conflict. These duelists including several people who served in the legislature in the Old State Capitol. Dozens of “affairs of honor” were fought from 1790 to 1866, killing and wounding multiple participants.
