Wyatt Woodson

Oral History Coordinator
Wyatt believes in putting the community in community history. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and spent much of his time there studying how a person’s personal histories can shed light on bigger questions about the world that they live in. He became aware of the importance of oral history at the Marian Cheek Jackson Center for Saving and Making History, a non-profit organization in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which originated as an oral history project and grew into an organization engaged in activities as diverse as housing advocacy, community events, and pursuing racial justice. That time as an oral history fellow, as well as subsequent work with local government, led Wyatt to his current belief in oral history not just as a potent tool for understanding the experiences of those in the past but also as a way to connect communities in the present as they advocate for a better future. When he is not engaging in oral history work, you will likely find him gardening, cooking, or trying to find a good book. Staff member since 2022
