Kentucky Historical Society

Our mission: We educate and engage the public through Kentucky history in order to confront the challenges of the future.

"The Kentucky Historical Society is built upon a rock-solid foundation of employees, members, scholars, volunteers and donors who have dedicated their careers, time, dollars — and their hearts — to demonstrating the transformative power of history in today's world."

KHS Executive Board

As the governing body of the KHS, the Executive Board not only is responsible for establishing and affirming our general policies, but it has the important duty of serving the people of the Commonwealth as legal trustee over KHS’s tangible assets.

"If you think that history is just a retelling of the past, you're sorely mistaken. History shows us why we have become who we are today and it gives us the critical information and perspective needed to help us decide who we will become tomorrow. As Executive Board members we are proud and honored to be a part of continuing the society's legacy of showing why history is important and relevant in the world today."

KHS Foundation

The Kentucky Historical Society Foundation is a cornerstone of the KHS, providing much needed funding support that allows KHS to provide the services and programs needed to help our audiences realize—and utilize—history’s relevance.

"The Kentucky Historical Society Foundation is honored to have as our sole mission the responsibility for providing financial support to the society that will help it carry out its state mandate to preserve the artifacts and stories that define Kentucky, while also nurturing engaged, caring leaders and helping all Kentuckians learn about and take pride in their heritage."
