Help Make History – Be a KHS Sponsor!

Each year the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) serves nearly 70,000 tourists, schoolchildren, K-12 teachers, genealogists, scholars, lifelong learners—and any other history enthusiast interested in exploring the Commonwealth’s rich past. Many come to the Kentucky History Center & Museums in Frankfort to immerse themselves in the Kentucky experience. They also come to investigate their family history or to conduct scholarly research, to participate in our family activities or to experience one of the many other history-focused programs or events we conduct throughout the year.

Most of our visitors are well-educated and from the “Golden Triangle” region (Lexington to Louisville to Northern Kentucky). By aligning your organization with the Kentucky Historical Society as a sponsor, you will receive wide exposure to these people, who tend to spend 60 percent more on average than other leisure travelers, according to the Cultural and Heritage Traveler Report (Mandala Research, 2013).

In addition KHS staff travel throughout the state to promote the power of history through a variety of programming and services, each targeting a specific group—from preschoolers and their families to community organizations and senior citizens. This simultaneously opens the doors to a broad range of opportunities for sponsors looking to appeal to a particular audience segment.

KHS has several financial (cash) and in-kind (goods or services) sponsorship opportunities throughout the year. See below for current opportunities.

Holiday History Train and Candlelight Posted: 9.26.19. Sponsor candidates will be accepted until all available opportunities are filled.

Each year the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) launches the holiday season with a free night of festivities on opening night of Downtown Frankfort’s Candlelight celebration. Last year, over 2,000 people visited the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History during Candlelight Weekend – more than 1,800 on opening night alone.

For years, the highlight of Candelight has been the Holiday History Train, a 21-foot x 65-foot, O-gauge layout featuring three main lines that fill our 4,000-square-foot Keeneland Gallery (see schedule below). The Holiday History Train and Candlelight at the Kentucky Historical Society have become a tradition for many people in the central Bluegrass region. This creates a prime opportunity for a sponsor to be seen by a broad, loyal audience. The following sponsorship opportunities are available. (Email questions and responses to: Doug.High@ky.gov. Please first read “The Legal Details” section of this web page). Posted:9.26.19

Kentucky Ancestors Town Hall: Oct. 12, 2019 Posted: 2.18.19. Sponsor candidates will be accepted until all available opportunities are filled.

This popular KHS event goes to the very heart of our communities’ identities, character and spirit — it highlights the people of Kentucky by helping them unearth and then share their own families’ impact on the Commonwealth.

The Town Hall features a series of “reveals” of fascinating family genealogy mysteries, submitted by the public during a call for applications. Out of those (140 were received in this latest round), three will be chosen for investigation by our team of expert genealogists. Audience members will be able to watch as the answers to these questions are revealed to the families for the first time by a celebrity guest host (KET personality Renee Shaw). Each reveal is taped before a live audience for a KHS-produced series that will air on the Kentucky Channel beginning in early 2020.

Town Hall also includes a genealogy expo made up of handpicked exhibitors focused on Kentucky genealogy and a Makerspace area where attendees can connect with vendors in a hands-on setting.

These events tend to draw approximately 200 spectators of all ages (mainly 40 and up), most of whom stay the entire day.
