Help Make History – Be a KHS Sponsor!

Each year the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) serves nearly 70,000 tourists, schoolchildren, K-12 teachers, genealogists, scholars, lifelong learners—and any other history enthusiast interested in exploring the Commonwealth’s rich past. Many come to the KHS history campus in Frankfort, where they can immerse themselves in the Kentucky experience at one of our museums located in the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History, the Old State Capitol and the Kentucky Military History Museum at the State Arsenal.

They also come to investigate their family history or to conduct scholarly research in the Martin F. Schmidt Research Library, to participate in our family activities, or to experience one of the many other history-focused programs or events we conduct throughout the year.

Most of our visitors are well-educated and from the “Golden Triangle” region (Lexington to Louisville to Northern Kentucky). By aligning your organization with the Kentucky Historical Society as a sponsor, you will receive wide exposure to these people, who tend to spend 60 percent more on average than other leisure travelers, according to the Cultural and Heritage Traveler Report (Mandala Research, 2013).

In addition KHS staff travel throughout the state to promote the power of history through a variety of programming and services, each targeting a specific group—from preschoolers and their families to community organizations and senior citizens. This simultaneously opens the doors to a broad range of opportunities for sponsors looking to appeal to a particular audience segment.

KHS has several financial (cash) and in-kind (goods or services) sponsorship opportunities available for the 2018/19 fiscal year (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019), as described below.

Candlelight and the Holiday History Train: Posted 9.11.18

Each year the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) kicks off the holiday season with a free night of festivities that coincide with the start of Downtown Frankfort’s Candlelight celebration. Last year, over 2,000 people visited the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History during Candlelight Weekend – more than 1,800 on opening night alone.

This year promises to be even bigger and better, with the Lexington Singers scheduled to perform, along with several area middle and high schools. Children’s activities from the KHS Learning Team will be offered, too.

But the highlight of the evening is the Holiday History Train, a 21-foot x 65-foot, O-gauge layout featuring three main lines that fills the 4,000-square-foot Keeneland Gallery. Trains run simultaneously, with up to 100 cars on the layout at one time. KHS complements the train display with train images and artifacts from its collections. The Holiday History Train will take to the tracks on the Candlelight evenings Nov. 15 and 16, and then run 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Saturday through New Year’s. The trains also will operate all day on Black Friday (Nov. 23) and again during Christmas week, Dec. 26 – 29.

The Holiday History Train and Candlelight at the Kentucky Historical Society have become a tradition for many people in the central Bluegrass region. This creates a prime opportunity for a sponsor to be seen by a broad, loyal audience. The following sponsorship opportunities are available. (Email responses to: laurel.harper@ky.gov.
