From Sea to Shining Sea, "manifest destiny" was a 19th-century idea centering the United States as "destined" to expand from coast to coast. But did all Americans truly accept this idea? Join us as Dr. Daniel Burge examines the evolution of this belief, revealing robust debate and disagreement over U.S. boundaries. His work captures a “messy, complicated, and...compelling story,” debunking a long-accepted myth in American history.
A native of Washington, D.C., Dr. Daniel Burge earned a Ph.D. in History from the University of Alabama. As a KHS staff member, he is Associate Editor of The Register of the Kentucky Historical Society.
