To join, or not to join? For coal miners considering union membership in the late 19th century, this choice could be complicated. Caught between competing corporate and union interests, miners often sided whichever one seemed to offer the best advantage at the moment. Join us as Dr. Dana Caldemeyer reveals the many factors that influenced their pragmatic decisions and sometimes conflicting behavior, challenging popular notions of workers’ attitudes during the Gilded Age.
Dr. Dana Caldemeyer is an assistant professor of history at South Georgia State College.
