Graveyard Quilt, 1843
Elizabeth Roseberry Mitchell of Lewis County, Ky., decorated this quilt with paper caskets that bear the names of family members. This extraordinary quilt illustrates nineteenth-century mourning customs and period American folk art. Donated by Mrs. Nina Mitchell Biggs.

Kentucky Military History Museum
at the Old State Arsenal

Revisit the commonwealth's military history in this fortress-like building that overlooks downtown Frankfort. Built in 1850, the Old State Arsenal is now home to the Kentucky Military History Museum.

Kentucky Military History MuseumKMHM tours allow visitors to focus on the rich history of the building without being distracted by an exhibition full of artifacts. Tours include a look at the architecture, the story of the grounds, a discussion of the building's role in the Civil War and a viewing of a new Museums-to-Go exhibit and a cartridge factory table. Estimated time: 45 minutes.

The KMHM is operated by the Kentucky National Guard and the Kentucky Historical Society.

The KMHM is open on Saturdays and tours must be scheduled at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.
