This instrument was said to have been used by early settlers of Kentucky, many of whom were Scots-Irish immigrants. Their fiddle traditions, passed down over generations, influenced the development of Bluegrass music. Donated by Mrs. W.W. Longmoor.

Research Resources

For over 100 years, KHS has been collecting a treasure trove of research materials which help shed light on the lives of Kentuckians in earlier times. The resources in the Martin F. Schmidt Library and Special Collections Reading Room, which include manuscripts, maps, oral history tapes, photographs and rare books, provide scholars, genealogists and the public with clues to the past.

Researchers are encouraged to visit these noncirculating collections in the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.
