KHS to Host Family History Workshop Oct. 13
FamilySearch.org and other digital resources

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 3, 2012) – The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) and Kentucky Genealogical Society (KGS) will host a free family history workshop at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort. Topics include FamilySearch.org and other digital resources.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m., genealogist Lise Embley will present an update on FamilySearch.org, including new features such as the source box. The afternoon presentation, entitled “Who is George Wunderlich and Why is he in my Scrapbook? A Case Study in Illinois and Missouri Collections,” will focus on digital newspaper projects and other digital resources.

Due to the Kentucky State University homecoming parade scheduled for downtown Frankfort that morning, attendees are encouraged to arrive early to avoid road closures and to locate parking. Visitors will be able to enter the library and the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History as early as 8 a.m. at the Broadway Street entrance.

Presented by KHS and KGS on the second Saturday of each month, each free family history workshop takes place at the Center for Kentucky History. Topics range from how to begin documenting your ancestry to specialized resources for experienced genealogists. If requested at the time of registration, an optional light lunch is available for $6, payable at the door.
