The HistoryMobile has taken Kentucky history exhibits to at least 1 million people since 1973.
The current exhibit, “Torn Within and Threatened Without: Kentuckians in the Civil War Era,” launched in April 2013. It:
- Is based on extensive research into primary sources, including, but not limited to, diaries, letters, memoirs, legal documents and photographs.
- Is presented in a graphic novel format to be dynamic and engaging.
- Uses touch-screens to present a historically documented problem, potential choices of action and potential benefits and consequences to each choice.
- Has optional lesson plans for teachers to use for pre- and post-visit activities. The activities are designed to engage students in primary source analysis, historical research methods and writing, and support Common Core English Language Arts and Kentucky’s Core Content for Assessment standards.
