May 5, 2012Women in Basketball“Women in Basketball” is presented in conjunction with the Frankfort Convention Center in honor of the
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women’s Basketball Tournament, held this year in Frankfort.
The exhibition features stories of women who influenced the game of basketball from its start in 1891 to today. Visitors will have a chance to shoot some hoops as women did in 1900, then compare that to modern rules and equipment!
This exhibit is a “Let’s Move: Museums and Gardens” event, an initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama and the Institute for Museums and Libraries. For more information on “Let’s Move,” visit

1:00pm"...By Our Sisters"The Kentucky Historical Society’s Staging Voices program brought together a committee of 10 girls from across Kentucky to prove that history is not defined by a chapter in a textbook. It is about the stories of different people from different places who all had different experiences.
The teens learned to document the past through oral histories and participated creating an original script presented by the award-winning KHS museum theatre program. The final production, performed by professional actors, contains direct quotes and composites of stories from interviewees. The play challenges the audience to continue to remember the progress that has been made, to advance the discussion about Kentucky women’s issues and to work for social change. The program was funded with a grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women.
