Creating a homestead in frontier Kentucky required the combined efforts of everyone in the household. After clearing the land, men plowed and harvested the fields, while women prepared food for the table or for market and children pulled weeds. Donated by Waveland State Historic Site.

Women in Basketball
“Women in Basketball” is presented in conjunction with the Frankfort Convention Center in honor of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women’s Basketball Tournament, held this year in Frankfort.
The exhibition features stories of women who influenced the game of basketball from its start in 1891 to today. Visitors will have a chance to shoot some hoops as women did in 1900, then compare that to modern rules and equipment!
This exhibit is a “Let’s Move: Museums and Gardens” event, an initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama and the Institute for Museums and Libraries. For more information on “Let’s Move,” visit www.letsmove.gov.
