Just as Fashion Week is wrapping up in Paris, the Kentucky Historical Society and Frazier History Museum are teaming up to present “Claiming Space: Women and Fashion,” an engaging conversation about how a woman’s fashion choices affect her success in politics and business.  This Women’s History Month event occurs March 7 at 6 p.m. at the Frazier, 829 W. Main St., Louisville, KY 40202.

Featured speakers Heather French Henry and Dr. Jennie Woodard will each bring their own unique experiences and point of view to this absorbing topic, examining its implications for women through the years.

Henry was appointed Commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs in 2014.  She is also Miss America 2000, and she designs and markets a successful line of evening gowns and cocktail dresses. She brings a hands-on business woman’s perspective to the table.

Woodard teaches women’s, gender and sexuality studies at the University of Maine and is a popular speaker on the juxtaposition of class, gender and fashion. She is currently working on a book about Elizabeth Hawes, whose career as a high-end fashion designer in 1930s New York stands in stark contrast to her later work as a union organizer and bestselling author.

Dr. Amanda Higgins, associate editor of the Register of the Kentucky Historical Society and coordinator of KHS’s research fellowship program, will serve as moderator.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m./program begins at 6:00. Cash bar and refreshments will be available.

$5 general admission/FREE to members  of the Frazier Museum or Kentucky Historical Society. Limited seating, so reserve or purchase your tickets here.
